Born February 22,1897.
Joined the Red Army in 1920 and was trained as an artillery officer.
He served as a senior artillery officer in the 1939-1940 "Winter War" against Finland.
Army commander during the Battle of Moscow.
Served as the commander of the Leningrad Front from April 1942 until the end of the war.
Promoted to Army General in November of 1943.
Stalin promoted him to Marshal of the Soviet Union in June of 1944.
Awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union on January 27,1945.
Became Deputy Minister of Defense and Commander of the National Air Defense Forces in 1952.
Died March 19,1955 of chronic heart disease on March 19,1955 and is buried in the Kremlin Wall Necropolis.
