  • Born February 22,1897.​
  • Joined the Red Army in 1920 and was trained as an artillery officer.
  • He served as a senior artillery officer in the 1939-1940 "Winter War" against Finland.
  • Army commander during the Battle of Moscow.
  • Served as the commander of the Leningrad Front from April 1942 until the end of the war.
  • Promoted to Army General in November of 1943.
  • Stalin promoted him to Marshal of the Soviet Union in June of 1944.
  • Awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union on January 27,1945.
  • Became Deputy Minister of Defense and Commander of the National Air Defense Forces in 1952.
  • Died March 19,1955 of chronic heart disease on March 19,1955 and is buried in the Kremlin Wall Necropolis.
